Grape: Mencia
Region: Willamette Valley, Oregon, United States
Distributor's Notes:
"Mencia has had a low-profile outside of the valleys of northwestern Spain. It’s the traditional grape of Ribiera Sacra. However, in the mineral-rich volcanic soils of the Willamette Valley, and in hands of rising winemaking star Anne Sery, this notoriously finnicky grape transforms into something wildly expressive, with lush aromas of wild huckleberry, tobacco, and pink peppercorns. On the palate, notes of blackcurrant, blueberry, and spiced cherries come forward, backed by smooth, supple tannins, dark chocolate and spice, an indicator of Sery’s stylistic roots in Burgundy. This wine will shine alongside earthy veggies, mushrooms, grilled meats, tuna, salmon, and even curry!"
