Distributor's Notes:
"As with all within the region called Rivoyra Sacrata, now known as Ribeira Sacra, the close relationship between the landscape, monasteries and the cultivation of the vine creates one of the most famous wines of Galicia. In Celtic and Roman times these wines were known as the liquid gold of the river Sil. On its river bank of which 'Verdes Matas' was born; a name given to the tradition where the local people, when drinking a glass of wine, used to say: "wine of Verdes Matas / you raise me you kill me / you bend me towards the women / do with me what you will...". During the centuries of splendid monasteries, this wine became one of the foundations of the medieval economy of Galicia, as well as a major player of the intense river traffic sailing the spectacular banks of the river Sil to Portus Polumbaris (Puerto Pombeiro). Currently, the land of Amandi of Pombeiro around Amandi, Pombeiro remain home to one of the flagship wines of Galicia. In the province of Lugo, among ancient terraces of vineyards of Cabreira and Retrotoiro, on the banks of the river Sil, where the monks built the monastery of San Vicente de Pombeiro in the twelfth century, in a place of peace and tranquility, one can find the Pena Das Donas winery, the ideal place for our wines. Their newly built facilities, outfitted with the latest technology for the production and bottling of wine."
