"The second release from the Isle of Harris Distillery brings another milestone to one of Scotland’s most exciting young producers. The Hearach Oloroso bottling represents the next permanent addition to the range, fully matured in hand-picked first-fill Oloroso butts sourced directly from the legendary coopers José y Miguel Martín in Huelva, Spain. Since its founding in 2015, this “social distillery” has existed to sustain its tiny island community of fewer than 2,000 people, but the whiskies they are releasing speak with a voice that reaches well beyond the shores of Harris. Oloroso sherry, known for its dark nutty character and made from Palomino grapes, transforms the lightly peated spirit (12–15 ppm) into something bold, aromatic, and unmistakably complex. Expect a nose that opens with winter spice, orange peel, and a touch of clove, layered with herbaceous green notes and the soft creaminess of white chocolate. The palate follows with walnuts, dried oranges, wood smoke, and savory thyme, before expanding into vanilla, subtle clove, and an extended finish of leather and liquorice. Bottled at 46% without chill-filtration or coloring, this is a rich, soulful malt that balances the raw maritime character of Harris with the depth of Spain’s greatest sherry tradition. A whisky that embodies both place and purpose, and an essential addition for lovers of sherried single malts."
