"Clos Julien is a small winery specializing in cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Central Coast, California, specifically San Luis Obispo County and Edna Valley. The vines sourced for the San Luis Obispo Coast Chardonnay are rooted in sandy loam — a mix of sandstone, marine shale, fossilized shells and limestone — and kept cool by the constant strong breezes from the Pacific. The grapes are tiny with thick skins, perfect for making aromatic, racy Chardonnay, a dead ringer for steely Chardonnay from the Mâconnais: vibrant, fresh and made for the table. Clos Julien's San Luis Obispo Coast Chardonnay is a marvelous Central Coast Chardonnay, with a purity of fruit and vibrancy that will charm anyone! In the glass, the wine sits a brilliant mid-lemon color with green highlights. The nose is piercing and intense with enticing aromas of white flowers, lemon rind, sea spray and Granny Smith apple. The palate is fresh and lively with clean, crisp flavors of muddled citrus, apple and pear complimented by a saline minerality that glide into an electric, high-toned finish. To get this much wine at such a fabulous price from California is almost unheard of! It’s a great wine for spring and summer, perfect as an aperitif, but also ideal for lime chicken, grilled shrimp and vegetable skewers or seared scallop pasta with fresh tomatoes and herbs."
