Quintodecimo / Falanghina 2017 / 750mL
Based in the mountains of Taurasi, Campania, Quintodecimo produces indigenous wines of exceptional quality through meticulous vineyard siting, organic farming, and precise and natural winemaking. Owner, winemaker and professor Luigi Moio was born into an historical family of winemakers in Campania dating back to 1880. After an extended stay in France studying viticulture and winemaking, Luigi returned to Italy in 1994 and in addition to teaching at the University of Naples, undertook the task of winemaker at various prestigious Italian wineries. The urge to break out on his own and make the highest quality wines possible in his beloved home land became too strong to resist, and in 2001 his dream became a reality and thus Quintodecimo was born.
In his winemaking vision, Luigi Moio aims to enhance the aromatic compounds and to increase the aging potential, by using selective extraction, controlled maceration, and aging in oak barrels—all of which he has tested rigorously.
Three white wines are produced at Quintodecimo focusing on three main varieties of white Campania grapes: Fiano, Falanghina and Greco. As for the reds, three wines are also produced, all with Aglianco, the ‘signature’ grape of the region. The essence of Quintodecimo is the idea to bring winemaking back to the vineyards in order to fully express the ‘terroir’ or sense of place.
