Vinous 91+ points - (David O'Reilly uses carbonic maceration for the Cinsaut component in order to round out its tannins and enhance primary perfume and fruit notes): Moderately saturated medium red. Perfumed, highly nuanced nose offers scents of red raspberry, cherry, meat, red licorice, spices and purple sage, plus a whiff of graphite minerality and a faintly candied quality that carries through onto the palate. Savory and classically dry, with its boysenberry and blackberry fruit flavors complemented by salty minerality. The tannins are fairly light but firm..Stephen Tanzer, October/2017
Wine Advocate 89 points - The 2016 Sinister Hand offers up aromas of ripe berries, grilled meat, green herbs and soil. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, supple and fragrant, with a good core of juicy fruit and a finely tannic, chewy finish. It's a blend of 63% Grenache, 16% Syrah, 16% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault..June/2018
The story goes like this- Long ago, during the 17th century, the O'Neills and O'Reillys were two revolutionary Irish families. They formed a rowing competition to reserve rights to some highly regarded land. The two rowing teams agreed that the first to touch the land would have their choice of the land on the other side. The youngest sibling on the O'Reilly boat didn't want to miss out on this opportunity, so he grabbed his own sword, cut off his hand and threw it ashore. He ruled over County Cavan and this land still remains in the O'Reilly family.
