Colour: clear. Perfume: typical of marasca distillate, with an excellent intense aroma, fine and well amalgamated, without any aggressive note. Taste: smooth but sharp, a sweet liqueur unusual for the punch of the distillate, which can be clearly perceived in spite of the moderate alcohol content. A rounded taste and a surprisingly persistent aroma.
Wine Enthusiast 90 points - The bouquet is lovely, balanced, properly astringent, ripe and juicy with scents of cherry stone and cherry juice. The palate entry is decadently sweet and textured with vibrant tastes of cherry compote and cherry preserves at midpalate. The finish is svelte, moderately syrupy and downright delicious. An outstanding liqueur: use it in an Aviation Cocktail. - P.P. (12/1/2007) - 90-95.December/2007
Ultimate Beverage Challenge 90 points - The nose is an unexpected, complex melange of aromas ranging from dried cherries to toasted nuts, cardamom, stone fruit pits, and pretty floral notes. The palate is delicate and balanced while generous..March/2012
Maraschino Luxardo is a classic. The typical straw coated bottle is by now a true icon on the mass consumption scenario. It is one of the very few liqueurs in the world produced by distillation. It is obtained from the marasca, a sour cherry variety exclusively cultivated by Luxardo. The distillate is allowed to mature for two years in Finnish ash vats (this wood does not lend its colour even after many years of maturing), and is then diluted and sugared.
