Barbaresco Roccalini / Cascina Roccalini / 750mL
Up until 2005 all the fruit from this important cru was sold to Fontanafredda, then Bersano, and from 1990 until 2005 the fruit was sold to Giacosa. Hence, this cru never saw its own name on a label until Paolo bottled the first bottles in 2005. Paolo is also the ONLY one bottling this cru that Masnaghetti calls ‘one of the most interesting in all of Barbaresco.’ The current vineyards in the Roccalini Barbaresco were planted in 1961, 1966, 2002 and 2011. In 2010 we will see a new ‘Riserva’ label that has the old 1961-66 vineyard bottled seperately. Paolo does everything himself in the vineyards, with some help only from his mom in the cellar. No barriques, no yeasts, no finning, no filtering… pure perfect Nebbiolo made like ‘once upon a time, ‘ in Barbaresco.
