Whisky Advocate 93 points - Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey finished in a port pipe. This is veteran master distiller Lincoln Hendersonâs newest creation, and itâs a beauty. Richly textured, silky, and well-rounded, with ripe berried fruits, candied tangerine, light toffee, maple syrup, and creamy vanilla, sprinkled with spice (cinnamon, hint of mint). Smooth, silky finish, and dangerously drinkable! The port pipe notes dovetail perfectly. Lovely just the way it is, but itâs begging for a cigar. My only gripe: why not 45 or 50% ABV? But Iâm splitting hairs. I really enjoy this stuff! (Spring 2011) Reviewed by: John Hansell.August/2011
Created by Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson, Angelâs Envy is worth coveting. Aged up to 6 years in charred white oak barrels and finished in ruby port wine casks, Angelâs Envy is an artisanâs masterpiece unlike any other bourbon. Even after being named a âLiving Legendâ by Wine and Spirits Magazine, Lincoln wasnât content to rest on his laurels. He was always a malcontent. But then, you donât spend 40 years defining the spirits industry and earn an inaugural spot in the Bourbon Hall of Fame without a few unconventional ideas. Angelâs Envy was his last, great endeavor. Angelâs Envy is what happens when 200 years of tradition meet an independent master craftsmanâs instinct to improve. Itâs a total return to craft first, hand-blended batches of 8 to 12 barrels at a time. Our bourbon starts with the finest local ingredients distilled in micro-batches and aged in American oak. We personally taste every barrel throughout each step to ensure that the spirit meets Lincolnâs malcontent legacy. This would be enough for any other premium bourbon, but Lincoln had other ideas for his creation. Thatâs why we finish every batch in ruby port wine casks. Thereâs no set time for the process. Itâs only Angelâs Envy when we say it is. The ruby port wine finish adds subtle nuance without ruining the integrity of the bourbon. The end result is a rich, exceptionally smooth and rare bourbon. Sin aside, we work every day to inspire envy, even if it takes a little longer.
