Unique to the House of Krug, every Krug Vintage is crafted to be different, to reveal the expression of a particular year. A year with character, a year with a special story to tell in a way that Krug alone can relate. To narrate this story, Krug has blended very expressive wines from a single year, enhanced by a stay of over ten years in the cellars. Krug Vintage is the story of a year as seen by Krug; there are as many stories as there are Krug Vintages.
In the mouth, it is full of sensations: orange blossom, dry figs, ripe quince, and mild spices such as cinnamon and ginger. With a crystal finish and lingering palate.
Since 1843, six generations of the Krug family have cultivated the markedly individual character of their exceptional champagne, showing that same single-mindedness and sense of purpose with which the founder, Johann-Joseph Krug, set out alone in pursuit of his objective of creating a champagne with a taste all its own
Wine Spectator 98 points - A superb Champagne and still youthful. Honey, ginger, lemon confit, coffee and mineral aromas and flavors come to mind, all kept focused by a firm, tightly wound structure. The finish is where its pedigree shines through, lingering like warm gingerbread and coffee. Drink now through 2015. 5,000 cases made.-BS.October/2003
Vinous 97 points - Three recent bottles of Krug’s 1988 Vintage have all been spectacular. Dried apricot, tobacco, orange peel and spice notes meld together in a Champagne of nearly indescribable finesse. Soft and inviting, yet back up by beams of lively minerality, the 1988 is in a great place right now. It should drink well for another decade-plus, but it would be a shame to miss the wine in its current state of pure beauty. The only thing better? The 1988 Clos du Mesnil..Antonio Galloni, November/2013
Krug only produces a Vintage when a crop has exceptional characteristics and sufficiently interesting features. To create exceptional vintages, the Krug family selects those wines that best express the ”voice” of the chosen year.
Perfect accompianiments to rich creamy dishes like turbo in hollandaise and sea bass in white butter or poultry in cream sauces. Also great with thick creamy dessert. Almonds and vanilla are a bold match.
